African Union Commission and JWF Sign Memorandum of Understanding

Addis Ababa, 23 February 2015: The African Union Commission (AUC) and JWF have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strengthening cooperation between the two parties to facilitate the development and integration agenda of the African Union.

This Memorandum of Understanding is the foundation of the very important partnership between the AU Commission and JWF.

The MoU was signed by H.E. Dr. Aisha L. Abdullahi, Commissioner for Political Affairs of the African Union Commission, and the Vice President of the Journalists and Writers Foundation, Mr. Huseyin H. Hurmali, on behalf of their respective organizations.

Dr. Abdullahi expressed her appreciation for the support of JWF. She noted this MoU signing as the foundation of the very important partnership between the AUC and JWF.

For his part, Mr. Hurmali reaffirmed JWF’s commitment to work closely with the AUC towards the two institutions’ common goals as well as the pursuit of human rights and coexistence in Africa and African people, as provided for in the AUC Strategic Plan and the AU Vision 2063.

According to the signed MoU, the Commission and JWF will explore opportunities for cooperation and non-exclusive partnership in the following areas:

• Fostering civil society participation in policy development
• Promotion of tolerance and coexistence as principles of human rights promotion and protection
• Support the implementation of the AUC Human Rights Strategy for Africa
• Information generation and dissemination on issues related to human rights
