On the Occasion of the UN CSW 69th Session
JOURNALISTS AND WRITERS FOUNDATION
PARTNERS WITH 17 NGOs FROM 7 COUNTRIES TO CO-ORGANIZE
14 IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL PANEL DISCUSSIONS
10 - 21 March 2025 | In-Person New York | ZOOM
In conjunction with the UN Commission on the Status of Women 69th Session (CSW69), the Journalists and Writers Foundation is proud to collaborate with 17 global partners from 7 countries to co-organize 13 in-person and virtual panel discussions from March 10 to 21, 2025, in New York.
The CSW69 will serve as a pivotal moment in the timeline of various critical human rights documents and internationally recognized commitments. The CSW69 will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, bringing together thousands of women’s rights advocates from 193 UN member states. Despite numerous achievements, it is essential to acknowledge that no country has fully realized its gender equality objectives outlined in the 12 themes of this landmark document. The review process will emphasize the importance of fostering intergovernmental partnerships to ensure that the intersectionality between Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and the other Global Goals is revived through localized, action-oriented policymaking.
The year 2025 will also mark the 25th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), which reaffirms the crucial role of women in conflict prevention and resolution while highlighting the detrimental effects of war on vulnerable populations, particularly forcibly displaced women and girls. Unfortunately, women’s meaningful participation in political spheres and decision-making bodies remains a distant goal in the face of ongoing conflicts. According to UN Women, if current trends persist, it will take an estimated 130 years to achieve gender equality in top leadership roles. Additionally, this year will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the historic adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Alarmingly, only 17% of the SDGs show significant improvement and indicate they are on track to meet their implementation deadlines, while 18% are stagnant, and 17% have regressed below 2015 baseline levels.
In light of these concerning realities, the Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF) and its global partners will co-host 13 panel discussions on the sidelines of CSW69. These discussions will bring together courageous women’s rights defenders, high-level decision-makers, and UN diplomats, all with the mission of fostering partnerships to ensure timely and effective progress toward achieving SDG 5: Gender Equality by 2030.
Detailed information regarding the CSW69 panels will be made available in February 2025, including registration links.
