On the occasion of the 68th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), the Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF) in partnership with Indialogue Foundation, GIOSTA-USA and the Commonwealth Chambers of Commerce India (CWCC) is organizing a side event titled “SHEconomy: Strengthening Institutions and Women’s Leadership for Socio-Economic Development” on 18 March 2024, 10:00am Indian Time (12:30am New York). The event contributes to the UN CSW68 Priority theme: “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective”.
In today’s global landscape, the pursuit of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls stand as paramount imperatives for achieving sustainable development. This event aims to delve into the multifaceted dimensions of accelerating progress in this realm, with a particular focus on economic development, institutional strengthening, and financing mechanisms infused with a gender perspective. By addressing the nexus between economic empowerment, institutional capacity building, and gender-responsive financing, we aspire to chart a course towards a more equitable and inclusive society. It will also emphasize the pivotal role of grassroots women leadership in socio-economic development and seeks to foster women’s leadership for sustainable socio-economic growth. The discussions will also scrutinize policy impacts on gender equality, envisioning an inclusive socio-economic future centered on creating a supportive environment that uplifts women and girls socially and economically.
Recognizing that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but also a prerequisite for achieving sustainable development, SHEconomy aims to catalyze dialogue and action towards building inclusive economies and equitable societies. SHEconomy will provide a platform to Keynotes and expert panelists to exchange insights, experiences, and find solutions to address the systemic barriers hindering women’s full participation in economic activities and leadership roles. Through engaging discussions, and knowledge-sharing, this side event seeks to identify strategies for leveraging institutional mechanisms and financing with a gender perspective to advance women’s economic development and participation globally.
